Bifloron is a combined injectable antibacterial for poultry that pairs florfenicol, a bacteriostatic amphenicol that blocks the bacterial 50S ribosomal subunit, with spectinomycin, an aminocyclitol antibiotic that binds the 30S subunit. Acting together, the two components shut down formation of the bacterial 70S ribosomal complex more completely than either drug alone, giving a broad-spectrum, synergistic effect against susceptible gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria implicated in respiratory and systemic bacterial infections of birds.
